Whether you are new to writing or have been a writer for years, you’ll always be challenged. You get caught between fear and rejection but the power of staying positive is that it helps you make a difference and succeed.

So, to make sure that we are on the same page, maybe I should explain what the term newbie stands for.  A newbie is a slang that refers to newcomers in any profession or activity. Am quite sure we’ve all been there.

If you are new to writing, what you really need is faith in yourself. The only thing that will get you through this starting point is learning through the mistakes along the way.

At some point, everyone was a newbie. So ask yourself how you want this to turn out for you.

When you are a new writer, many times you will see, “no newbies, newbies keep off”. Basically, this means you are not qualified for the job. You’re left wondering when will the opportunity present itself if everybody is looking for experienced writers. Don’t worry, not every client can afford experienced writers. You just need to come to terms with your situation and pull up your socks. Giving up is not an option.

My first article was rejected and a few days later I received a mail that my account was suspended. Why am I saying this? This is my consolation to you that life is not a bed of roses and may seem unfair to beginners.

The following tools or software will come in handy if you are a newbie.

You have no choice when you venture into writing but to read and keep on reading. Your long hours of reading will pay off because you’ll have lots of choices to write about.  And the good thing about it is that you:

The list is endless…

Start Writing

No one ever said that writing will be simple. So stop worrying about being perfect. Keep a journal and brainstorm ideas. There are many topics to write about and can be overwhelming before settling on your niche.  The more you write the more you gather the courage and improve your writing skills.

Create A Website

The best thing about creating a website and offering your services is that you will attract a particular audience. I would recommend WordPress.  In fact, you can start on a free plan with free themes.

Three things that you definitely will need are:

  • A remarkable Homepage

This is your landing page. Introduce yourself to your prospective clients by writing about your plan. Remember that you are a step closer to getting hired when your profile is viewed by the right person.

  • About page

Every website has about us page. Pay attention to the page because It’s the page that is most visited. The About page is all about writing, in brief, your personal life, why you’re passionate about writing and why you are unique.

  • A Blog page

It’s better having your own blog post than nothing. There are popular blogs which cover different topics and you can gather ideas by checking them out.

Grammarly

As I earlier mentioned, there are many topics to write about. To improve your writing and to write content that is error-free, you may consider using Grammarly. It’s a free tool and all you need to do is to download the extension to your browser and create a free account.

Aside from the tools and software mentioned, there are several other tools you can apply. In my opinion, If you are getting started, the above are my preferred methods.
